NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE 

Pottawattomie Park is a small residential community of .41 square miles in Michigan Township, LaPorte County, Indiana, United States, with Friendship Botanic Gardens comprising .16 square miles of the total land area.

Pottawattomie Park was established and developed on land once inhabited by the Potawatomi Indians and is believed to be the site of Potawatomi “council ground.” It was incorporated in 1936. There are 113 homes in the Town currently.

Among the community’s housing stock, examples exist of architectural styles from each era to the present throughout the Town’s developmental history, beginning with several revival styles prevalent at the time development began in the early 1930s. See photo, below.

The neighborhood is surrounded by the city of Michigan City, with Pottawattomie Country Club to the east, Friendship Botanic Garden to the north and west, Krueger Memorial Park directly west, and the NICTD South Shore station directly south. Access into and out of the neighborhood is by way of Roeske Trail, Garden Trail and Marquette Trail, all of which intersect with Springland Avenue. There are no through streets.

Community life research firm, Niche, named ToPP one of the “best places to live in LaPorte County” and gave the Town an Overall Niche Grade of “A.”
